To all the Dads out there – Happy Fathers Day! In only eight and a half weeks, I don’t think I’ve earned the right to celebrate. For one, it is my wife who deserves the real credit for caring for Olivia. Also, these first few weeks of fatherhood have been far too fun for me to feel I need to be “thanked” for anything. Even changing diapers is still an enjoyable exercise for me. I don’t think Olivia has had a chance to get to the mall to get my Fathers Day tie, so even if I wanted some sort of recognition it wouldn’t be coming my way anyway.
My Dad is hands-down just about the handiest guy I know. If there is something that needs to be fixed, he can fix it. The few home maintenance skills I claim to possess, I owe to him. Even more important, though, Dad always stressed the importance of education and being fair to others. I try not to make life sound simpler than it actually is, but learning new things and serving others can only help improve your own life as well. My dad could teach a few things to people here in Lansing. On Father’s Day, I’ll keep these two ideas in mind.
