Michigan’s about to get healthier.

In about three weeks, workplaces across Michigan are going to go smoke-free.  Many establishments across the state have already done so in advance of Michigan’s new smoke-free law going into effect on May 1.   With such a big change in the works, I thought now would be a good time to give everyone a little more information about what’s in store.

The Michigan Department of Community Health has put together a very helpful website to answer questions that consumers and business owners have about the ban.  You can check it out at  The website contains the actual bill’s language, answers to frequently asked questions, and a guide for businesses to make sure they are in compliance with the new law.

During my three terms in the Michigan House, I heard about this proposal from an awful lot of constituents.  The majority of them were in support of this change and I shared their belief when I voted for the ban last year.  I am excited that Michigan is finally joining the large majority of other states with some sort of smoke-free law that will protect employees and consumers.
