Love was in the air at the Macomb County Clerk’s Office on Valentines Day Friday.
Clerk Fred Miller performed 12 wedding ceremonies without any officiant fees and provided each couple with a complimentary certified copy of their marriage license, which is needed for name-change purposes.
Prospective couples first filed their marriage applications with the County Clerk’s Office in a two-week period before Valentine’s Day and were offered the service at the time of application.
The county clerk, by Michigan statute, is one of several elected officials allowed to perform marriage ceremonies, though it is not a service that has been offered by the Macomb County Clerk’s Office in at least 25 years.
